12th August - The Glorious Twelth marks the start of the new shooting season

Today, 12th August, or the Glorious Twelth as it's more commonly known, signals the start of the new game season.  Whilst not everyone is able to enjoy shooting red grouse on the Scottish Moors, the start of the partridge season is less than 3 weeks away so time is now of the essence in terms of your dog's exercise/conditioning regime ahead of 1st September.

For our dogs to work efficiently and enthusiastically, we have to give them the best possible chance of doing so.  As with any athlete, preparation is the key and feeding the correct diet in conjunction with exercise around 4-6 weeks before you expect your dog to start working should help to ensure desired condition levels are met.  Starting the season in top condition will allow both you and your dog to enjoy your day's shooting, and more importantly, help your dog to recover as quickly as possible for his next outing.

We have formulated a range of lower fat maintenance and higher fat working diets to supports your dog's energy needs and the Chudleys Big Bite is ideal to have in your pocket to feed at lunch time to help your dog re-fuel for the afternoon ahead.
