As the sun continued to shine over the UK, handlers and their furry friends eager to showcase their skills packed out the Cotswold Show and Food Festival in Cirencester on the 7th and 8th July. There were some fierce displays of speed and hunting technique over the weekend as handlers and their dogs were put through their paces in several events including, multi pick up, pick & mix, long retrieve and obstacle.
Saturday saw one of the most intense competitions during the scurry league, as the top three positions in the multi pick up scurry were separated by just milliseconds. Able to narrowly hold 1st place was N. Wilkinson with Kiwi in a time of 23.75 seconds. 2nd spot was taken by C. Bowyer with Tigga in 23.87 seconds and 3rd place was won by L. Southern with Macey in 23.99 seconds. Another close contest was in the obstacle scurry, A. Davies with Bertie recorded a time of 12.53 seconds. They were able to hold off the competition and finish in 1st place. 2nd place went to N. Thomas with Kim in 12.63 seconds. P. Williams with Neil secured third place in a time of 12.67 seconds.
L. Southern and Macy continued their outstanding performance on the second day of the competition, finishing with 22.93 seconds in multi pick up, 14.62 seconds in pick & mix, 21.81 seconds and 12.98 in obstacle scurry. J. Higgins with Cody not only put on an impressive showcase throughout the day, they went on to be crowned the Queen Ann Cup Winner with a spectacular time of 81.19 seconds.
After another fantastic weekend of gundog action, the competition is really heating up. The next round of the BASC Chudleys Scurry League will take place at The Game Fair on the 27th – 29th July at Ragley Hall.
