WITH THE SHOOTING SEASON IN FULL SWING, CHUDLEYS AMBASSADOR RICHARD MACNICOL SHARES HIS TOP TIPS ON SUSTAINING YOUR DOG DURING THE SEASON

With the pheasant and partridge season in full swing, Chudleys ambassador Richard MacNicol shares his top tips on getting the most out of your dog and helping to sustain them during the busy and cold season.

As the weather gets colder, Richard explains that your dog will burn more calories keeping warm and adjusting to the increased workload this season. Your dog should have an excellent feeding regime in place to support these changes – this is especially important for dogs that sleep in a kennel.

Richard recommends that Chudleys Performance and Working Crunch are both ideal in order to sustain your working dog. Ingredients such as green lipped mussel, carnitine, increased fat and good quality protein content provides nutritional support to the musculoskeletal system, helps to promote efficient energy metabolism and provides additional joint care.

Richard feeds his dogs a small amount around 7am, and their main feed is around 5pm depending on what time he gets back from his shoot.

After a day of beating and picking up, Richard advises that:

  • Your dog is dried off before getting back in the car or kennel. There are many dry bags and similar products on the market, but a simple towel dry is sufficient!
  • Whilst drying your dog, make sure you check their skin and ears over for brambles or injuries.
  • It is important to keep the dog’s kennel warm and dry. Richard is used to training Pointers who are not suited to the cold as well as breeds such as Labradors and Spaniels.
